About Dystovia:

This is a neat little game developed by students from a game-school in Montréal, Canada. It’s not a completely polished project up to professional standards, but it comes close and it is defitinely a lot better than most of the low-cost thrash that floods Steam these days. The idea behind it definitely works: progress through the levels of a 2D-platformer by using two different skins and solve some very easy puzzles in doing so. Combat feels a bit clunky, sounds aren’t always present and the music gets repetitive very soon. But the idea is good, graphics are fine and animations show real promise. A fine example of what students at modern-day gaming schools are able to accomplish: more than a lot of those scam-developers who flood Steam with their thrash. It looks alright, yet feels a bit unsharp? If thats the right word for it, like it ain’t pixelated correctly. The combat feels a bit shabby and has a delay, like if u hit and want to move to the opposite side u have to wait a second till the animation is done. Also, there only is a sound effect if u hit someone, the motion itself, like when u swing in the air produces no sound. As for the music, it gets really repetitive and stuck into your head. There are quite some bugs; had a blackscreen, got stuck below an elevator and even became superman, floating through the air (video below at the end for superman action!). I couldn’t complete the game and am not sure if I even got to half, either the game wouldn’t let me or it was that unclear what to do. I would have like to seen a bit more, just out of curiousity. Because the one thing where this game might shine, is the puzzle elements in it.
